I subsequently sold the Hobie cat and I have now retired and moved from Minnesota to Texas where the sailing season is pretty much 12 months. I was also was able to learn a fair amount of information about the Aquadyne company which ceased business in 1978, I believe. I was then able to contact Sailrite to get the sails made to the original dimensions. Ultimately, I was able to connect with a Yahoo group of Aquadyne Sailbird owners (about 50 folks) and through them was able obtain the sail plan dimensions. I sent you a picture- you said you weren’t familiar but you suggested someone I could contact that would likely know. As you know, it wasn’t (I did very much enjoy the books!) but I decided to contact you directly since you were kind enough to include your email address in the books. I ordered your book(s) thinking the needed information might be included. And that’s when I encountered your name during a google search. That’s when I decided I needed to find out who made her so I could try to get sails for her that fit. Loved that I could sit normally without having to duck for a swinging boom.

So the next spring I decided I would “cobble” a set of Hobie sails on her and try her out. I loved the Hobie but I am not a “trapeze” sailor so I would sit cross legged on the trampoline after about an hour of that, my legs would fall asleep and then there was no comfortable way to be on that boat. I took the boat but at the time I was sailing a Hobie 16 so I just parked it in the back yard where it stayed for 2 seasons. They had never sailed it because they didn’t get any sails with it and they were unable to determine who made the boat in order to have sails made. She and her husband decided to move to Croatia (missionaries) and she asked me if I would be willing to take the boat since they didn’t have sufficient time to put it up for sale and all that goes along with that. I acquired the boat several years ago from a friend who had purchased it at an auction. I am so glad he was able to use this website as a resource to ultimately acquire a proper set of sails for this boat. shares a couple pics and short video featuring his classic Aquadyne Sailbird 18 trimaran.
